Kim Van Antwerp

Kim Van Antwerp earned a BA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. She has been a resident of South Lake Tahoe since 2012. She combines handmade, vintage and antique materials with needle-felted figures to create one of a kind sculptures expressing a connection with dreams, memories and places known and unknown. Familiar objects take on new life in ways that shift perspectives and spark curiosity.

Her paintings are directly inspired by her experience of music and its effect on all the senses. By listening carefully and repeatedly, the songs develop as visions in the mind’s eye. This image, combined with emotion and memory, is interpreted and translated onto the canvas as a composition of movement, color, and rhythm.

Kim’s work has been featured in several magazines and books. Along with painting and music, her interests include travel, reading, and enjoying the unmatched atmosphere of the Sierras, on the snow and on the trails.

“Kim Van Antwerp’s work is a whimsical dance of textures and time. Exquisitely detailed mixed media artwork and jewelry come to life through the seamless blend of delicate needle-felted sculptures, carefully handmade components, and treasured antique materials. The result? Irresistible charm that transforms the familiar into enchanting, surreal treasures—every creation a playful story waiting to be discovered.”
